The Chromatic Approach From Below A device used extensively in jazz walking bass lines. Here we use the approach note a half step below the chord tone. In these examples we will be using non chord tones.
The Dominant 7th chord and ways to resolve it using smooth voice leading techniques. In this example we are continuing the use of triads to construct our walking bass line.
Walking Bass Lines Lesson 5 The Two Feel Rhythmic Devices -The next example shows the use of the eighth note and triplet subdivision to create additional motion in the two feel line. The use of the eighth note in jazz walking bass lines is very effective and used by Masters of Jazz Bass. This technique carries on from lesson 3 and 4.
Walking Bass Lines Lesson 4 The Two Feel Using Triads – One of the most effective ways to embellish the two feel is to play a quarter note on beat 4, this gives the bass line a push and the feeling of playing into the next chord change.
